Some of the top Indian fashion designers and leading names in the Indian fashion industry have been winning hearts across the globe with their signature styles and unique fusions. Here’s a list of top 10 Indian fashion designers (in alphabetical order of their names) who are soon expected to flood the fashion industry with their quality work and become charms of India.

Bibhu Mohapatra

One of the best designers known for exquisite evening dresses, Bibhu Mohapatra has been charming the fashion industry since 1997. His talent was first witnessed at the Fashion Institute of Technology, New York, when he had won the Critics Award for Designer of the Year: Best Evening Wear. He has a rich working experience with brands like Halston and J. Mendel. In 2008, his own eponymous label was launched and since then his work has been loved by all.

Kanika Goyal

The star of provocative minimalism, Kanika Goyal is known for her own label launched in 2014. She has a great experience of working with brands like Prada, Mohapatra etc. Her style is a fusion of luxury and urban chic shapes and textiles. 

Manish Arora

A known name in the international fashion world, Manish Arora had launched his eponymous label in 1997. His distinguished designs were officially showcased at the London Fashion Week 2005, following which he was invited to the Paris Fashion Week in 2007. His work is full of playful vibes and Indian heritage which has been spotted by fashion magazines like Vogue & Bazaar over the years and worn by international celebrities like Lady Gaga and Katy Perry.

Manish Malhotra

One of the most popular designers among the Bollywood fans, Manish Malhotra had started working as a Costume designer for the Indian Film Industry in early 90s, after modelling for various fashion brands. He is known for bringing Indian culture at an International stage through his contemporary style and luxurious embroideries. He has worked for hundreds of movies and has brought a change in Bollywood designs over time.

Masaba Gupta

The renowned brand Masaba, known for its quirky combinations of lightweight Indian traditional and modern western wear with vibrant colours and prints, is the self-titled label of designer Masaba Gupta. Her designs have been worn by Bollywood stars since 2009 and have been awarded multiple titles including the L’Oreal Paris Femina Award for Best Emerging Designer 2012 and PETA India’s Most Talented Designer 2013. She had debuted her career as part of Gen Next, a show for upcoming fashion designers organized by Lakme Fashion Week 2009.

Payal Singhal

A talented and immensely creative designer known for her custom-made bridal wear, Payal Singhal was adjudged as the Designer of the Year by Shoppers Stop while she was just a teenager. She has worked with brands based in India, Hong Kong, Middle East and USA. Her designs are known for detailed embroidery and art.

Priyanka Ella Lorena Lama

One of the young designers winning hearts with her label, P.E.L.L.A, Priyanka is known for promoting beauty in every individual. She uses natural fabrics such as silk, and creates detailed pieces full of aesthetical vibes.

Ritu Kumar

A name known for her remarkable journey from a small studio owner on the outskirts of Kolkata, to one of the biggest Indian brands with 27 stores across nation. Ritu Kumar had launched her label in 1969 and is known for finely combining Indian traditions and contemporary era through fabrics and talented craftspeople. Her contribution to fashion and craftsmanship was honoured with a Padma Shri and various awards including France’s Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres.

Sabyasachi Mukherjee

The designer known for his international styling with Indian soul, Sabyasachi had launched his label in 1999. He has been awarded multiple titles including the Femina British Council Award for Most Outstanding Young Designer in 2001, winner at Mercedes Benz Asia Fashion Week, 2003 etc. He is known for using richly designed patch-work and enticing colour palettes that strike an immediate appeal even on a passing glance.

Tarun Tahiliani

The first Indian fashion designer to have showcased his work at the Milan Fashion Week, Tarun Tahiliani is known for his signature style of mixing Italian patterns and Indian aesthetics. His work is rich in culture as well as contemporary chic looks.
